Itinerary

You will arrive at Cochin airport, where you will be met and transferred to Munnar. Munnar, a picturesque hill station, known for its tea plantation adorns most of the area with its greenish-carpet-like leaves, and also the winding roads through the hills, misty mountains, and clean refreshing atmosphere. The name Munnar has derived from three rivers – Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kudala that confluence in Munnar town. The stunning landscapes, comfortable weather, and the fragrance of tea leaves make Munnar one of the most desirable destinations in South India. Indeed this must be the purpose why the British always retreated to Munnar when the heat and humidity were at their peak in other parts of Kerala, as Munnar is located near the Anaimudi Peak, the highest peak in the Western Ghats. Also home to Munnar is an exotic plant called Neelakurunji that flowers just once in a 12-year period and the endangered mountain goats, known as the Nilgiri Thars. Upon arrival at Munnar, Check in at the hotel. Overnight at Hotel or Resort.

After breakfast proceeds to explore Munnar, which includes a visit to Mattupetty Dam, Kundale Lake, and Echo point. You will also visit the Eravikulam National park, located on an elevated mountainous plateau with spectacular views, where the rarest species of mountain goat, ‘Nilgiri Thars’, can be spotted. Later visit the Tea Museum which has been built in the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea. Its collection of souvenirs and artifacts will remind you of the era when the tea industry had just started to make its presence felt in Munnar in the 1880s. A glance at the museum for its array of curios, pictures, and types of machinery, each portraying significant events that contributed to a thriving tea industry. Munnar is a complete hill station covered in greenery, under the misty scent of tealeaves all around, with clean fresh air and the pleasing cool weather all year round. Take a walk in any direction and the whole world of tranquility and serenity allures you. Return to your hotel. Overnight at a hotel or resort.

After breakfast, drive through the Western Ghats to Thekkady – a beautiful location with tea gardens, rubber estates, and coffee and pepper plantations located high in the Cardamom hills. Thekkady(Periyar) is home to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, a dense evergreen forest that is famous for elephants, bison, sambar, wild boar, langur, and tigers. The Periyar Lake was formed by the building of the Mullaperiyar dam and the whole park covers 777 sq. km – of which 260 sq. km is still thick evergreen forest. Periyar is also famous for its fragrant spice plantations. Check-in at a hotel upon arrival. Afternoon, get ready to enjoy a boat ride on Periyar Lake. With some good luck, you might catch a glimpse of wild elephants, sambhars, and wild boars on the shores of the lake. You might also have a chance to catch sight of The flash of a blue-winged parakeet, kingfishers, thrushes, flycatchers, and the Nilgiri wood pigeon. Later visit a spice plantation tour, where you could see cardamom, pepper, rubber, vanilla, coffee, and tea. In Thekkady the most commonly grown spice is pepper however we will also show you cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger, turmeric, and curry leaves, growing in their natural habitat. Overnight at Hotel / Resort.

Breakfast at the hotel, check out and drive to Alleppey where around 12.30 PM, you will board a Kettuvallam (houseboat) and proceed for a memorable overnight cruise, through the fascinating unique backwaters of Kerala. You will have a private houseboat that cruises till sunset, and then it anchors for the night. Your boat has a private balcony with comfortable chairs. The rooms are well well-appointed with an ensuite bathroom and air conditioning which functions during sleeping hours. The boat has a fully equipped kitchen and an experienced cook to prepare authentic Kerala cuisine with seafood specialties and fresh vegetables. You could learn some Kerala cooking if you are interested. The water paths of Kerala play a major role in the economy of the state as they link remote villages and islands with the mainland. It is an unbelievably different experience to cruise in the backwaters in country boats, captivating the beauty of Kerala's villages. Houseboats, also known as kettuvallam or rice boats, are the highlight of a Kerala trip, and in earlier times these boats were used to transport rice and other essential commodities. These houseboats are exclusively designed using local materials like bamboo poles, coconut fiber ropes, bamboo mats, carpets, etc., and are a wonderful way to enjoy exploring the fascinating beauties of backwaters. Their languid grace and quaint design add another dimension to your cruise in the shimmering blue waters. Lunch, evening tea with snacks, and dinner are served on board. Overnight onboard the HOUSEBOAT (Air-conditioning will be functional during sleeping hours only)

After breakfast, disembark at Alleppey and you will be transferred to Cochin airport on time for the return journey.
