Itinerary

You will arrive at Cochin airport, where you will be met and transferred Munnar. Munnar, a picturesque hill station, known for its tea plantation which adorns most of the area with its greenish-carpet like leaves, and also the winding roads through the hills, misty mountains and clean refreshing atmosphere. The name Munnar is derived three rivers – Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kudala that confluence in Munnar town. The stunning landscapes, comfortable weather, and the fragrance of tea leaves make Munnar one of the most desirable destinations in South India. Indeed these must be the purpose why the British always retreated to Munnar when the heat and humidity was on its peak in other parts of Kerala, as Munnar is located near the Anaimudi Peak, the highest peak in the Western Ghats. Also home to Munnar is an exotic plant called Neelakurunji that flowers just once in a 12-year period and the endangered mountain goats, known as the Nilgiri Thars. After breakfast proceed to explore Munnar, which includes visit to Mattupetty Dam, Kundale Lake, and Echo point. You will also visit the Eravikulam National park, located on a elevated mountainous plateau with spectacular views, were the rarest species of mountain goat, ‘Nilgiri Thars’, can be spotted. Later visit, Tea Museum which has been built in the Nallathanni estate of Tata Tea. Its collection of souvenirs and artifacts will remind you of the era when the tea industry had just started to make its presence felt in Munnar in 1880s. Glance the museum for its array of curios, pictures and machineries, each portraying significant events that contributed to a thriving tea industry. The many forts, churches and other buildings are reminders of the British and Portuguese presence in this city. It is a vibrant city and is also referred to as the Gateway to Kerala. Afternoon, proceed for a sightseeing tour of Cochin, which is the economic capital and the most contemporary city of Kerala. The tour covers - The Dutch Palace at Mattancherry (10 AM - 5 PM, Closed on Fridays and national holidays), renowned for its wall murals depicting scenes from the Ramayana. The Jewish Synagogue(10 AM – 12 PM and 3 PM – 5 PM. Closed on Sundays and Jewish Holidays.) at the heart of what is locally called the Jew Town. The St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India. The Santa Cruz Basilica originally built in 1557 by the Portuguese. The Chinese fishing nets are huge cantilevered fishing nets believed to have brought to Kochi by Chinese trade. (Optional tours) In the evening witness the world famous Kathakali dance at a local theatre, a traditional art form of Kerala and one among the national dances of India.
