After breakfast, drive through the Western Ghats to Thekkady – a beautiful location with tea gardens, rubber estates, and coffee and pepper plantations located high in the Cardamom hills. Thekkady(Periyar) is home to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, a dense evergreen forest that is famous for elephants, bison, sambar, wild boar, langur, and tigers. The Periyar Lake was formed by the building of the Mullaperiyar dam and the whole park covers 777 sq. km – of which 260 sq. km is still thick evergreen forest. With some good luck, you might catch a glimpse of wild elephants, sambhars, and wild boars on the shores of the lake.
